Off the Kuff has a nice report and overview of the implementation of Bus Rapid Transit in Houston. BRT is part of Capital Metro's All Systems Go plan that was presented last fall along with the Leander Commuter Rail.

BRT is a joke - even in Vegas, where it's done pretty well, it isn't attracting new customers to transit (unlike light rail, which does in fact get people out of their cars).
The FTA began pushing BRT under pressure from Republicans like Inhofe - they are NOT friends of mass transit. Think about what BRT ends up being in practice - a HOV lane, in most cases. Unlike light rail, a BRT lane (if you're lucky enough to GET a lane; most so-called BRT systems here don't) can always be recaptured for use by automobiles.
